Shaolin Jazz The 37th Chamber album was released earlier this week on Monday. Being based in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. metro area i.e. “The DMV” I had heard about DJ 2-Tone Jones’ pending project for a while. He had a listening party in district before having one in New York City. DJ 2-Tone Jones is a favorite DJ in the DMV, you know the type of DJ you look on the flyer and think either to yourself or out loud “oooohhhhh he/she is DJing, I’m DEFINITELY going. I’ll be there!” I immediately realized how big this album/blendtape/mix(whatever you want to title it) was when I heard DJ 2-Tone Jones at the Art Beats and Lyrics exhibition earlier this month in D.C. He released a single off the project and hearing a track off the project sparked my interest as I thought “This is good”. Wu-Tang have always been a soulful collective but Wu-tang paired strictly with Jazz…it just works! I will reframe from a detailed review because quite honestly it’s not necessary, this body of work speaks for itself and sounds as if the songs were originally recorded over the paired rhythms. Check it out and download, IT’S FREE.
