Good Morning and yep! It’s another Jazz Sunday. This song will definitely have your day off to a good start. The Parisian band The Hop released a video for their single Rien Ne M’Arrêtera(Nothing will stop me). If you don’t have this EP, first you definitely need to get it and second it is the last track on the EP which is very fitting because it is a triumpant song that actually signals more of a beginning than an end. So click on play, enjoy! Oh! The Hop have a new EP on the way.
Ok that’s it! What is in the water in Paris and in the country of France for that matter. The whole hip hop/soul scene is seemingly on this jazzy quality goodness…you know what?… keep it coming!
Not much information the group but they do have visuals so get on your google translate
If you don’t know we love our sneakers here at Creative Beach and Paris does too(that is a personal testament) Solebox is back again for their Sole Mart vending event where you bring your shoes, display and the rest is all about the sales pitch. It is a way for the popular site solebox to meet their customers and get back to the essence of what we all love…SNEAKERS. If you are in Paris and want to know more here is some info on the event direct from Solebox.de>
Also, check out footage of last year’s event courtesy of Hypebeast.com
The French do it well..who should argue, the French do what they do, nahmean? OK before your mind dips into a twitter afterdark, BET Uncut state of mind(yeah I said it) NOPE! This is definitely not anywhere near that level of thinking. What this is however, is a sampling of some of the dope music coming out of the country of France via a Belgium radio show, laid back is not only the name of the collective hosting the mix but also the absolute best description for this mix. If you want to chill, pretend you are in a hip lounge, sitting on the beach or on your couch this mix is for you! There are a few familiar names that pop up on the mix so Creative Beach puts THE official stamp on this one…because it’s good.
The Hop are one of those groups that instantly take you back to why you love music. Hip hop is coming into its 4th decade of existence and The Hop were raised on hip hop and like any good upbringing paying respect to those that came before is a must. The Hop not only pay respect but pay it forward as they have infused the old and put out their brand new EP entitled simply The Hop EP. The Hop are a 12 piece band hailing from Paris, France and up front are comprised of two MC’s and a lead singer. Creative Beach reached out and talked to the lead singer Sabrina from her London home. Sabrina spoke about the formation of the group, the group’s strong hip hop background, the EP itself and where the name The Hop actually came from. Stay for a little while and get to know the The Hop.
Creative Beach: First off, how does a 12-piece hip hop band come together? How did you guys form the group The Hop
Sabrina: Well, the drum player Benjamin met Tony the trumpet player who knew the bass guitarist Clément and Yann the guitarist. Quickly, Benjamin asked me to join the group. Clément on the other hand invited the MC’s Kema and Espiiem who were related to Jay Breez (sampler) who later became a member of the band. Finally, Sanou ( alto sax), Jérome (sax), Antonin (keyboardist), Ronn (keyboardist) joined us. Ilfat (sax), Juliette (saxe alto) and Kelyan (keyboardist) are the stand by performers of the band.
Creative Beach: Where does the name The Hop come from? It’s definitely interesting.
Sabrina: The Hop comes from a track of A Tribe Called Quest, one of our absolute influences. We’ve been motivated by what you American fellows call “doing the real thing”. (laughs) May I quote a text from KRS One and Marley Marl that explains Hip Hop in a lovely way:
Hip means to know
It’s a form of intelligence
To be hip is to be up-date and relevant
Hop is a form of movement
You can’t just observe a hop
You got to hop up and do it
Hip and Hop is more than music
Hip is the knowledge
Hop is the movement
Hip and Hop is intelligent movement
Creative Beach: One thing… I think “Keep it real” is the phrase you are looking for?
Sabrina: Yeah “Keep it real” is the phrase…thanks!
Creative Beach: No problem so…how long did it take to put the EP together?
Sabrina: It took a year and a half actually!
Creative Beach: Since you’re based in London, how does it work collaborating with the group? Everyone else is based in Paris correct?
Sabrina: We are all students. I am in London, Benjamin is doing a semester in Amsterdam and, after having recorded the EP with us, Sanou left to Lisbon in Portugal. The rest lives in Paris. It is sometimes complicated because of the distance but we managed to find an efficient way of working; mainly Benjamin, Tony, Clément and Yann compose digital versions then send it to the other musicians so we could add ideas and finally put words into it. We all gather in Paris for rehearsals which means that all of us fly back for that.
Creative Beach: Are there any plans to start touring?
Sabrina: For the moment, we are focused on composing the album. The next gig will be in Amsterdam on the 13th of July for a festival. London is on the list as well. I don’t know really, but if you have any intentions of inviting us to the USA we will be glad to come!
Creative Beach: To wrap things up, I know you all have an EP that was just released but is there an LP in the works?
Sabrina: Absolutely, we are working on that. A free EP is in preparation as well. We expect the release of our first album next year.
Creative Beach: Thanks for the interview Sabrina.
