Jazz Sunday: Common “Sweet” Behind the Scenes Video

Posted by on Sunday, 16 October, 2011

Yes, yes happy Jazz Sunday to all. This is definitely a treat. Common was on twitter a little over a week ago tweeting about a trip to Haiti(Ayiti) saying simply:

COMMON

@commonCOMMON
On my way to Haiti !!!
He has been updating periodically on how amazing the trip was, well late yesterday he posted another tweet that gave us a glimpse into his trip to Haiti. Apparently he was there doing a video shoot for a song off his album “The Dreamer, The Believer” and I’m quite sure to do humanitarian work as well. Honestly the video is amazing! What’s even more amazing is the soundtrack to the video and I’m assuming it is the instrumental to the song(I sure hope it is!!) Check out the video and enjoy!

Bonus: I am going with common sense(no pun at all) and saying that the instrumental in the video is a sample of the song “sweet” well regardless…here is the original. Trust me, you all need this album in your life.

Common x Michael Eric Dyson AT Baltimore Book Festival Today

Posted by on Saturday, 24 September, 2011

One Day It'll All Make Sense

Common’s book entitled One Day it’ll All Make Sense (yep same as his album) is one of the more anticipated and talked about MC memoirs to hit the book stores. In the last few years it has become increasingly popular for the memoirs/autobiographies of MC’s to pop up or scheduled to be released. Jay-Z’s book was rumored for a while and hit like a platinum status album when it was released late last year. Prodigy has released a book, Q-tip and Questlove are said to have books in the works and many more.
Common will be at the Baltimore Book Festival today 9/24 at 6pm along with Michael Eric Dyson and Common’s Mother Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines speaking about Common’s new book and other issues relating to the hip hop community.
For all of what is said about Baltimore in a negative sense, Baltimore plays host to great festivals and is known for them. This year’s Baltimore Book Festival is set to be a good one, Roland Martin, Terry McMillian, Tavis Smiley and Shirley Strawberry will there to speak as well. Oh! One more thing…it’s FREE!
Check out Common’s speaking event HERE
Also check out general information on the Baltimore Book Festival which runs through Sunday
BONUS: Classic Common Video Reminding me of Self off the album One Day it Will All Make Sense

Common Performs at The White House Poetry Night

Posted by on Thursday, 12 May, 2011

Common’s name is probably one the more highly ranked names on google the last few days because the pseudo controversy(let’s call it what it is) surrounding his invitation to read at Michelle Obama’s White House Poetry Night program. The online hip hop community immediately blasted the implications that were thrown at Common and being called a “vile rapper” as well as late night shows, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I think Bill Maher will have a turn on his show tomorrow as well. I could go on but Common’s appearance at the White House was far from controversial so let’s get to why you stopped pass CB, Sit back and Enjoy. Oh! This sounds like a possible song…what do you all think?
