Here is something that popped up on the net recently and it’s something to smooth things out for all of you just getting home on the east coast. Talib Kweli performed in Paris back in early March. Before the show Redbull filmed Talib as they rode through the beautiful city of light(it has another meaning but for this it’s very literal) and Talib talked about his love of french culture and how the show at Bataclan came about.
Here is some crowd footage of the show at Bataclan as Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli perform “My Umi Says” and then go into a seriously funky breakdown
Cookin’ Soul and MC Melodee seems to automatically equal good music! They are back again, this time giving us insight into MC Melodee’s upcoming mixtape with the official video to the single “Gotta Get Away”. Personally I am happy that there is a feminine voice to the ‘travel song’ and she expresses how so many people feel in general. The smooth tempo of the song with the night time vibe of video enhances the song and makes you want to head to your nearest travel site and click “book”, if you can’t get away close your eyes and dream as you listen to MC Melodee.
Let’s keep the vibe going with a La Melodia song, a throwback of sorts…enjoy
It has been a while since Raashan Ahmad came across the screen here at Creative Beach but while hanging out over at the wonderful place known as Youtube(is youtubing a verb now?) I came across a video that definitely escaped the attention of Creative Beach when it was released back in February but definitely happy that it was released. The song is featured on Raashan Ahmad’s seriously overlooked, one of the top “album’s of the year 2010″ in my opinion, it is entitled ‘For What We’ve Lost’. Sit back and enjoy!
This is my jam! Sorry…this song is so well done and speaks on relatable and relevant topics
Jazz Sunday two weeks in a row, yes it is true. Here is a good mix by a good dj named DJ Good Peoples(don’t you just love that name). As the title says this is a mix of jazz influenced hip hop(gets all the love here at creative beach). So no more typing on my part, enjoy!
Good Sunday to all, well Kane Mayfield is back and so is Homeboy Sandman because the two paired up and released the single “Over Ya Head”. Although, I don’t know about the song being over ya head but hands certainly will be because this is what is commonly referred to as a banger and hands will definitely be up for this one. Kane and Homeboy Sandman equally shine on this track(literally, there is no one upping on this) and as Kane Mayfield finishes his verse, Homeboy Sandman slides right in to complete the track leaving listeners sliding their mouses over to the play button to hear it again. Soooo why don’t you all give it a try and remember to follow these instructions, “Press play, head nod, hand in the air, press play again”.
French Presidential candidate Francois Hollande’s campaign video has been highlighted this week although not in the way he might want. Presidential candidate Hollande used Jay-Z and Kanye West’s hit song “N— in Paris” while campaigning in some of the poorer and largely Black and Arab suburbs of Paris. The French election process is held in two rounds, the first round of voting is set for this Sunday April 22nd and the second round set for May 6th. Francois Hollande has an almost even split with current President Nicolas Sarkozy, with President Sarkozy leading slightly in polls. Francois Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy are not the only two vying for the Presidency, it also includes Marine Le Pen who is also a popular candidate. While comments are disabled on the youtube video, the amount of dislikes are almost equal with the amount likes. The Jay-Z/Kanye West song is unedited which of course to many would instantly bring a bit of a shock but the content which is overlaid onto top of images of minority supporters has definitely caused more than a few to express their displeasure. Take a look at the video let Creative Beach know what you think, post a comment.
It has been a while but Jazz Sunday is back! It didn’t go anywhere but today here is an OFFICIAL Jazz Sunday post. Jazz Sunday has been very sparse in 2012 but there has been a lot going on behind the scenes here at Creative Beach, oh! It’s all good, it just takes up time but yes this Jazz Sunday is well worth the wait! There is something old but hopefully new to you and there is something brand new, new to us all! Today Creative Beach is going to smooth it out and then get you up and dance. Creative Beach is staying in Europe for this post and first up is CB MC of the moment Gracias. Gracias has definitely moved me and I know his music will make it to a sizable crowd here in the states but music is global and the world is at our fingertips(thank you Youtube). Let’s smooth it out to a live performance Gracias did last summer at the Bassline festival. This vid has been on the CB social network scene but here it is for the masses.
Alright, are you all ready to get your two step on!? Here is a brand new Joy Denalane vid from the English version of her album “Maureen”. If you have been following Creative Beach, Joy Denalane has been a regular feature on Jazz Sunday and this just a continuation. A live band and feel good music, this is the flip side of Jazz Sunday, it’s all about putting a smile on your face.
Creative Beach never let’s you go before giving you more, two videos just won’t do. Here’s another video from Gracias ft. Ekow, boom bap with a smooth feel, you know what Creative Beach is about!
This one is for all the midnight marauders, everyone that is still up fighting sleep, determined to make the most of their time or just for anyone that is up and awake. Gracias is not new to Creative Beach but if he is new to you, this is a great introduction! I’m gonna keep this short, press play and enjoy! Oh! Gracias is scheduled to release an album next month so let’s all think happy thoughts and hope to see it pop up here in the U.S. on itunes.
I know what you all are thinking…Yo What!? Yo Soy Music is an up and coming record label Frankfurt, Germany. Now when I say record label, don’t think 360 deals and the majors, think a group of people who are actually making music, promoting, selling and performing. Yo Soy Music gets at the heart of what you are reading this for and that is you love music and the culture around it. They are releasing singles from Shuko and Thad Reid an A and B side(what like a record/tape!?) I don’t want to brag and Creative Beach is adamant about maintaining humility but…if you know this site pressing play is a good idea! Enjoy!
Here is a word from Yosoy themselves

In terms of genres, THE COLLECTION is very open-minded and we support music with attitude. Therefore, we offer artists the opportunity to work in a good environment and to place their product outside of mass retailers.
Wow what can I say about Africa is the Future T-shirts and the AITF brand? One thing I can say is that I love it! Alright everybody pull up a chair, story time:
So I saw the group Les Nubians rocking an Africa is the Future T-shirt back when Myspace was Facebook and Facebook was still in college and Imeem still existed(yes I took it there). I forgot about it and surfed, surfed, I rode the interact waves until I landed on the shoreline of Africa is the Future and I never looked back.
Direct from the website, the campaign says: AFRICA IS THE FUTURE is a t-shirt campaign initiated in 2004 by Nicolas Premier & Patrick Ayamam to promote new ways of thinking Africa and its place in the World. This project is independent and non-governmental. In order to give the genuine dimension that it deserves, our crew is now working on the building of unexpected and exciting partnerships ! To be kept informed of future developments, please subscribe to our newsletter. Salute !
Africa is the Future commissioned a mixtape and here it is for your listening pleasure
