Travel on a Budget Done Right

Posted by on Saturday, 28 January, 2012

I think we all like to travel, well I’ll say most of us but I can definitely raise my hand when it comes to the travel question. There are numerous travel blogs out here on the net but some stand out more than others and Oneika’s travel blog is one of them. Oneika put out a “How to, according to” travel guide/info and it is definitely something that many people can do. Do you have a passport? Are you ready to criss cross the country? check out the info, let’s go!

I travel. A lot. The last few years I make anywhere from 7 to 10 international trips a year.
I get a lot of people asking me how I manage to do it; no, I’m not rich, and yes, I fund my own travel. So how do I do it? The answer is multi-faceted, but REALLY SIMPLE: I have made travel a lifestyle and create opportunties to see the world using my abilities and resources.

I’ve decided to do a post resuming just how I can afford to travel so much and compiled some information that can hopefully help you to do the same.
  • Timing and planning
Timing and planning are SO important for me. I try to book my train/plane tickets way in advance while seats still tend to be cheaper. I avoid travelling during peak periods when I can, but since I am a teacher with fixed time off (during peak periods) this is often difficult. Instead, I use the inflexibility of my schedule to my advantage: since I know exactly when I’ll be on vacation, if I find cheap tickets, I just book them right away. No way I’m missing out on a deal!
When travelling in Europe and Asia I have used a variety of budget airlines and search engines to book my trips. I have listed a few below.
Asia: Air Asia, Dragon Air, Royal Brunei, Jet Star, Tiger Airways, Zuji
Europe: RyanAir, Easy Jet, Sky Europe, Edreams, Swoodoo

Passport Project(Passport Life) x Jesse Boykins III EP

Posted by on Wednesday, 29 June, 2011

The Passport Project and Passport life is something that Creative Beach can definitely get down with and you all should too. I have to switch into a complete blog and let you all know, as someone who holds a passport and has actually used it…traveling anywhere outside of your own country will change your life. I’ve spoken about it on numerous occasions on this site and it is the reason there is a travel portion of Creativebeach. Although, passport life is not only pushing to get more Americans on a plane, train, automobile or ship to see what is beyond our borders but they are also getting behind Jesse Boykins III new EP Way of A Wayfarer, check the EP tracklisting/cover art and single. The EP will be released this Thursday June 30th

Posted by on Wednesday, 1 June, 2011

When Creative Beach first launched back in April the trailer for Leave A Message was posted and well here is the full documentary.  Yeah we love sports! Regardless, besides the name of the site is Creative Beach (kanye shrug). Also who doesn’t like to watch surfing, don’t we all wish we could surf. It’s BLAZING here in Maryland and watching this documentary if only for a few minutes takes away the heat. Well watching in the air condition helps too. Check out THE top women surfers in the world. The documentary took two years to shoot and was shot in Indonesia, Australia and Mexico just to name a few locals. As always click on play and ENJOY!

Amanda Diva Technicolor Lover Episode 15: Euro Reflections

Posted by on Friday, 13 May, 2011

Amanda Diva came back from being on tour in Europe not too long ago, dropped a new music project and a new episode of Technicolor Lover. I’m not going to hold back on this…but I feel this! Diva I agree with you on this one. Well I don’t make music but y’all know. I am not giving up on the states but traveling expands your mind and circle. Ok I was hype because I’ve had the same sentiments and then had people give me the side eye but it’s real. Oh! washing jeans…that’s a personal thing. Two wears? What do you all do? Check out the video and for the record, passport stamps always get a thumbs up.

Southwest Airlines Completes Merger with Air Tran Airlines

Posted by on Tuesday, 3 May, 2011

Yesterday Southwest Airlines announced that their merger with Air Tran Airlines was completed. Although the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) has to approve the merger, Southwest Airlines is confident that the merger will be approved and Southwest can proceed with their plans as scheduled. One thing, since Air Tran flies to the Caribbean does that mean I can get an even deeper discount on a flight to Puerto Rico or Aruba if I want? Hopefully this is a good sign for air travel in the U.S.

Kira Tiana: A Unique Travel Perspective

Posted by on Wednesday, 20 April, 2011

Kira Tiana is a writer and traveler that if you don’t know about her already you will definitely want to know more after reading the chat I had with her. Kira Tiana graduated from Harvard University in 2002 and through a fellowship started down the path that she is currently on. I sat down and talked to Kira from her Chicago home where she talked about how she started traveling, her first book on the city of Paris from a unique perspective and why African-Americans should travel more.

So let’s start, right now you have a book out “Kiratiana’s Travel Guide to Black Paris: Get Lost and Get Found”, How did that book come about?

Kiratiana: Yes, well i actually lived in Paris from 2005 to 2006 and before that I traveled around the world for a year from 2002 to 2003. I always wanted to provide a resource for people to use when they traveled and I’m a lover of culture through out the african diaspora.

CreativeBeach: Ok…what got you into traveling extensively?

Kiratiana: I first traveled abroad extensively when I studied in Germany during my junior year of college, Munich Germany to be exact and while there I traveled to PRague, Italy, Paris, England I love the feel I get when visiting a foreign country for the first time you feel a bit uncomfortable but you have to find out stuff find the museums the parties the people it’s that uncertainty that I love.

CreativeBeach: The wanderlust huh? To use a German word.

Kiratiana: yes exactly!

CreativeBeach: Let’s talk about the book some more, many have described it as a “different kind of travel guide” a novel almost, How would you describe it?

Kiratiana: hmmm I would describe it as a cultural travel guide that highlights the culture of africans, african americans and caribbeans in the city of light.

CreativeBeach: That’s a great description…You said you were in Paris from 2005-2006, did you have plans to write a travel guide before then?

Kiratiana: Yes I did, it’s been something that has been in the works for 6 years…took me awhile to produce it but i am proud of it.

CreativeBeach: In the the book, you mention plans for other travel guides…are any of those in the works now?

Kiratiana: Yes i’m working on chicago right now because I live in Chicago, of course I would love to do Afro brazil the Caribbean.

CreativeBeach: There is a very rich presence of black people in Chicago.

Kiratiana: Yes Chicago is a “black” town and the thing I love about this city is that we’ve been able to produce some incredible black people, jordan,Obama, John H. johnson and Oprah each of these people have a special place in the city. You can go to oprah’s studio, you can hang out in Obama’s neighborhood you can go to the united center, you can see the ebony building on michigan avenue.

CreativeBeach: Continuing…there is a significant presence of black international travel blogs and sites on the net. How important is it for black people to travel abroad in your opinion? Speaking specifically about black Americans.

Kiratiana: I’m glad that you are noticing more black travel blogs out there on the internet. I think it’s important to travel because it makes you a better more well rounded person, it’s fun, it’s experiences that last with you.

CreativeBeach: Well, thank Kira Tiana, continued safe and happy travels.

You can read Kira Tiana’s blog and preview her book HERE
